Power Derby 2026
Lot’s of Folks asking for info on the Derby:
In each division players compete as individuals, participation is optional. Players should attend wearing at least their team cap and jersey. Players are grouped into small contests in which they take turns swinging at BP style pitches. Whenever they swing they either score or make an “out” by reaching certain markers (different for each league). Players are eliminated once they have lost in a group twice. Any player who wins a group at least once gets a derby t-shirt and is slated as part of a “Derby Cup” team representing their division in competion with other players and coaches in a one-night tournament. Eventually as we eliminate more players the final two players both get trophies as Champion and 2nd place finishers. It’s fun and free to participate!
More regular bats and balls this year . We will still provide trophies and t-shirts to top performers.
Derby Previews:
Majors: Last year’s winner Truman Smith is in the Seniors now so we will have a new winner in the Majors. Jackson Hobbs of the Naps is the only player who won a match in last year’s Majors Derby that is returning.
Seniors: Top two finishers from last season’s Senior Derby are in Sunset now so will also have a new winner here. Mason Collins of the Cubs was in the five finalists and Jason Williams also of the Cubs returns after winning a match last year. Truman Smith of the Padres won the Majors Derby last year, plus Drew Binam of the Cubs and Colt Mason of the Padres were each in the Majors final four.
Sunset: Hayden Fender of the Yankees returns to defend his title. Cameron Smith of the Dodgers was second last year in Sunset and Seniors. Jeremiah Wagner of the Yankees won the Senior Derby in 2025. Blake Phillips and Riley Jorn of the Athletics were in the final six along with Brad Englund of the Yankees.
The Derby Cup 2026
Last year the Senior/Majors players broke the Sunset players’ streak and won the Cup. The final has been won by a players team 7 of 9 years including the last six in a row. Can a coaches’ team break through in 2026? Can the Senior/Majors players win again and even up with Sunset players at 4 Cups each? We’ll see as likely will run the Cup tourney over Championship weekend again this year.
