#1 Registration 2026 Paperwork will mail out to most returning players in early January. New players can call or text to get forms by mail or email any time. #2 Winter Ball In the midst of our Winter program and will add players at a pro-rated fee any time through March. Call or text for info. #3 Field updates/Batting Cages Working with new mid-week users at Optimist on trying to get the batting cages back up and running this year. Looking into trying to get some all weather turf to lay in the bottom of the cages. If you have any leads/contacts on turf, make sure to let Rob know!!! #4 20th Anniversary Season!!! 2016 will be the 20th Summer league for Metro baseball and we hope to have our best year yet including some sort of special events to commemorate our anniversary year. #5 Fees for 2026 Registration fees will once again stay the same for the Summer season and gate fees at Optimist will also be the same. Waiting on info for Barnhouse gate fees. #6 Grantland Rice Contest May do another year of the sportswriting contest and will have info in the Spring. #7 Bats for sale In the Spring will do everything possible to secure some wood bats to sell at the park at a reasonable price for players who want one. Remember the league supplies bats so you don’t have to buy one. #8 Field Prep Thanks to Coach Smith & Blake Cowan we are hoping to continue to maintain and improve the condition of the Optimist fields and will also use Barnhouse as part of the Summer & Fall season. #8 The Sounds of 2026 The Seniors head to new wave music of the 80’s, the Sunset to Depression era hits of the 30’s, and the Majors back to some of the earliest recorded music ever from 1900-1909. #9 Virdon Retro Fantasy League Season 10 rolling now and in the midst of its most competitive season thus far.
